From its headquarters in The Hague, Europol assists the 28 EU Member States in their fight against serious international crime and terrorism. We also work together with many non-EU partner countries and international organizations.
Large-scale criminal and terrorist networks pose a major threat to the internal security of the EU and to the security and livelihood of its citizens. The biggest security threats come from:
- terrorism;
- international drug trafficking and money laundering practices;
- organized fraud;
- counterfeiting of the euro;
- human trafficking.
But there are also new, growing dangers, such as cyber crime and human trafficking. The crime networks in each of these areas are alert to new opportunities and know how to stand by traditional law enforcement measures.
